Physical therapy services in Hawaii require a doctors prescription after the first visit.  If you are not sure whether or not your condition could benefit from physical therapy services, you may schedule your first visit directly with us, without having to see your doctor first.  We will take your through a comprehensive initial evaluation and determine whether you simply require some education and a simple home exercise program that you may continue at home, or whether your condition may need follow up physical therapy visit(s), in which case you will need to get a prescription from your physician.  In either case, we will be happy to give you guidance toward symptom relief.  If you would like to see your physician before our services, click here to download a prescription form.

We participate with all major insurance plans.  Click here for a list of insurance plans that we participate with.  If you are unsure of your insurance coverage or plan, please call your insurance company to confirm.  If you do not have insurance coverage or choose not to use your insurance, we may be able to work out a reasonable payment.  We strive to verify your insurance coverage and inform you of your copay in a timely manner.  Copayments are expected to be collected at the time of service once the cost is established.

How do I know if I need physical therapy?

Following the initial evaluation, the physical therapist will develop an appropriate treatment plan based on the deficits presented and your functional goals.  Treatments may include:

  • Functional movement education and training
  • Postural and ergonomical education and training
  • Therapeutic exercises (range of motion, stretching, strengthening, stabilization, conditioning)
  • Neuromuscular training (sequencing and coordination of muscle contractions, balance)
  • Modalities (hot/cold packs, parrafin bath, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, low level laser diathermy)
  • Manual treatments (soft tissue mobilization, myofascial release, transverse friction massage, joint/spinal mobilization, positional release, strain/counterstrain, suboccipital release, lymphedema massage)
  • Kinesiotaping, McConnell taping
  • Manual or mechanical cervical or lumbar traction
  • Custom orthotic fitting

Other services we offer at Wahiawa Physical Therapy LLC include Functional Movement Screens.  Functional movement screens are appropriate for individuals who do not experience pain or do not have a current injury, but would like to screen for areas of weakness or asymmetry often associated with sports training, or just living/working.  It is a proactive approach to identifying problem areas (ie., stiffness, weakness) before they become a functional problem.  For more information on the Functional Movement Screen, click here.  Functional movement screens may be used as an annual check-up, much like visiting your dentist.
